These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things

Posted in Uncategorized on July 31, 2010 by butterflywriter

Today I thought I would tell you a little bit about some of my favorite things including some of my favorite websites. This may or may not help you get to know me and who I am a little better.

Let me first share with you a picture of my sweetheart.

Gigi

This is Gigi! I drive some people crazy referring to her as my daughter, but what can I say.  She is part Lhasa and is such a good dog.  She’ll be 13 years old next year but you’d never know the way she runs around. She’ll get on a running spirt and run circles around the house. She listens and behaves very well and loves people.  This is a picture from her Glamour Shot session back in 2006. Isn’t she a doll?!?!

So, I’m a little bias towards my favorite website since it’s my dog grooming website for my business – PupKutz. You can visit www.pupkutz.com to schedule your dog’s bath and/or groom along with a different array of services, dog care tips, specials and additional links that you may be interested in. I am constantly tweeking the site to make it more accessible and user friendly. If you live in the Gaffney/Spartanburg, SC area and would like a quote on a home dog groom or pet sitting just go to the Contact Us page on the website.  You can also leave questions and comments using this same form. I’m in the process of uploading more pictures in the Photo Gallery. I hope you will visit the site and you can also follow PupKutz on Twitter at www.twitter.com/PupKutzGrooming

Music has ALWAYS been a part of my life. I grew up in The Salvation Army and learned how to play an euphonium at a young age. In addition to brass band music I have a varitey of groups I enjoy listening to. Some would say that my CD rack is filled with an eqletic variety of different genres and styles.  I listen to more Christian Contemporary music than anything else and I have never been able to really get into Country music eventhough I use to live in Nashville.

My newest found music fondness is a group called RED. I first heard their song “Never Be The Same” on WayFM in Nashville last year and I was hooked. I ordered their two CDs as a birthday gift to myself in December and they are hardly ever out of my car stereo.  The group won Rock Albumn of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards back in April. Yes, RED is a Christian group but thier music is not “in your face” about God, Jesus or anything you might consider churchy. They show that hard rock music can be good and tasteful without all the additional garbage associated with it so often. This also allows them to get into venues where Christ is not usually shared and that door is opened for them to reach more people than those that are involved in a church. But you can check out thier music at thier official website which is www.redmusiconline.com. Enjoy!!

This next website that I would like to pass along to you is for those of you that enjoy reading and especially if you have children who are fond of reading.  There is a new children’s online bookstore called Pamondon. They offer over 200,000 products including books, magazines and other merchandise. They are focused on the entire family and although right now the majority of thier products are geared to children they will soon be offering books for adults as well. The people behind this company are dedicated to providing families with an excellant variety of items at such a great low price. To see more click on the link below.

I also enjoy candles and have recently been introduced to Scentsy Wickless Candles. While I was trying to find a housewarming gift for my best friend when another friend shared her new adventure with Scentsy candles. You place the wax bars in the warmer and it’s melted by a small light bulb. I love the idea of not having an open flame around the dogs and especially around children. They have 80 different scents available along with large, mid-size and plug-in warmers. If you also enjoy nice and refreshing scents in a fun, safe decorative way check out Tiffany’s site at www.tschmader.scentsy.us

I have one more passion to share with you before I close. The organization/charity To Write Love On Her Arms is designed to give support, love and encouragement to those who struggle with self-mutilation especially cutters. I’ll let you go to their website since I do not believe I can give them the justice and discription needed. Please be aware that thier story behind TWLOHA is very discriptive and may be a little disturbing to some, but don’t let that discourage you. It is an eye opener and can stir things up in your heart that you did not know was there. Some people don’t want to accept the fact that there are so many people struggling needing that person to love and accept them for who they are – scars and all. But I would encourage you to check out their website at www.twloha.org

Other than the things listed above I enjoy hanging out with my friends. It’s been hard moving and leaving my friends in Nashville along with Massachusetts, Florida and New Hampshire just to name a few. I am thankful for email, texting and Facebook allowing us to keep in touch. But my friends will always have a special place in my heart. I am thankful also for the new friends I am making here in Gaffney.

But there you have it. Just a smidge of a few of my favorite things. If you go to any of these sites I would love to know what you think and if you have more questions about them I will do my best to answer them for you. Just leave your question in a comment and I’ll get back with you as soon as I can or you can email me at butterflywriterblog@gmail.com.

Everyone have a great day and God bless you!!

Looking on the brighter side of life!

Posted in Scripture on July 22, 2010 by butterflywriter

When I started thinking about writing a blog I wanted to make sure that it was used not only as a healthy way of me venting without flooding my friends email accounts with long “woe is me” novels, but I wanted to write hoping that my thoughts and/or experiences would be able to help someone else.

I will tell you that I do suffer with depression and I’m my worse enemy most of the time. But I’m trying to turn things around with the way I think and some of my negative actions.

I believe it was back in December of this past year that a friend sent me a suggested scripture verse for me to look up. So, I went onto www.biblegateway.com to check it out. Yes, I did and do own a bible or two, but Bible Gateway allows me to look up scripture in different translations to help me better understand it.

The scripture verse that Jeff had sent was Philippians 4:8, but I fell in love with the way The Message puts it and it also includes the 9th verse. Here it is:

Philippians 4:8-9 (The Message)

8-9Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

Ahhhh, refreshing and such great advice! I especially like the section that says “the best, not the worst”. I have never had any major trauma happen in my life but any little thing that happens turns into big time drama for me. I dwell on the worst of things when I should be looking for something good. Afterall, they say that there is something positive in every situation of life.

Is taking this to heart and living by it easy? No, I’m not saying that, but it is possible. So, I’m not just going to challenge myself but the challenge is yours as well. Put this verse on the refrigerator, on an index card that you can keep in your purse or wallet or do like I did and add it as a note on your cell phone since most of us never leave home without it. When you’re having a bad day or just need a quick reminder that there is a brighter side, you have it right in front of you!

If you like this idea or have any other suggestions on how you look on the brighter side of life, please feel free to leave a comment! And let me know if you have met this challenge!

I look forward to hearing from you! Have a blessed and happy day!! :)
